QF86 Target Drone

The Sabre Jet

The QF86 Target Drone was used extensively at WSMR.  They were flown out of  Holloman AFB, NM when manned and Northrop Strip when unmanned.  A mobile Vega control van was used for taxi out when they were flown from HAFB. The control center was located at King 1 on HAFB until the mid-90's when it moved to Bldg. 300 at WSMR.  

The videos from cockpit and nose wheel cameras made for some very exciting pictures. They had a very interesting characteristic when they were hit, the wings would stay together and flutter down from 10,000 ft. in one piece.
